The Artists ::: Magic Words

Magic Words is the latest offering from Leeds based band The Artists and I have to say there is indeed a magical quality about it.

However the EP unfortunately opens with weakest offering Here Comes the Storm. Not to say that it’s bad just that in comparison with the rest of the tracks it feels rather tired and unoriginal.

Vocalist Luke Thompson has the swagger of Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner (minus the overly strong accent) and buoyantly warbles his way through the four track EP with nothing short of steely confidence.

When title track Magic Words kicks in I get a strong sense of The Divine Comedy and who can deny singing along to certain songs by those guys?

The final track on the EP is simple ditty called Show Me the Way, which has to be my pick of the bunch. It shouts similarities to indie greats such as Razorlight and Babyshambles. Both of which are bands that any indie rock outfit, in my opinion, should be honoured to be compared to.

All in all a great EP from a young band and as they grow musically they’re sure to mould their sound into something even better.
