Dark Stares ::: Whiskey
The first offering from the UK based band Dark Stares comes in the form of the debut single from their upcoming ‘Tell Your Friends’ EP. Dark Stares have already gained some momentum and reputation from their supporting act for The Darkness during their recent UK tour.

However this first track proves disappointing if it is a sign of things to come.

The single entitled ‘Whisky’ carries itself with a Muse like guitar work, with similar intonation and a methodological structure. However, it is nowhere near as clean and polished as the tunes of their attributed influence.

Although this was hardly expected, the unfortunate comparison makes it almost impossible to ignore.

At the same time, their added gritty vocals remind me of the short-lived Aussie band Mammal, whose same grittiness and catchy riffs got them noticed and respected on the worldwide stage. Yet the vocal prowess of the track is somehow lost in the generic sound of their instruments in this case.

Unfortunately the overall product of this mixed up sound leaves one slightly disappointed, and maybe a little confused. While noting the potential for a solid tune, we’re still left wondering if they left their individuality at the door before recording.
